Doorzo vs Neokyo (2026): The $800 Rule That Decides Which Is Cheaper

Doorzo or Neokyo? We priced an identical 2kg parcel to the US on both official calculators. Doorzo hides its cheapest route behind an $800 minimum; Neokyo posts the lowest courier rate we have measured.

Doorzo vs Neokyo (2026): The $800 Rule That Decides Which Is Cheaper

Quick answer

Buy anime, hobby and used goods through Doorzo; buy fashion, handmade and card products through Neokyo. They carry different stores, so the decision is often made for you before price enters the picture. On cost, the winner flips at one threshold: we ran a 2kg parcel to the US through both official calculators, and Doorzo only unlocks Japan Post (including its ¥3,300 surface mail, the cheapest rate we have found anywhere) once the order value passes US$800. Below that line Doorzo's floor is ECMS at ¥4,278; Neokyo's DHL Express at ¥4,998 is the fastest cheap option and the lowest courier rate of the four proxies we have measured. Neokyo is the one that lets you total everything up front. As of July 2026.

Doorzo charges ¥50 per item. Neokyo charges ¥350. Put those two numbers side by side and the comparison looks finished before it starts.

Then we asked both calculators to quote the same box (2kg, going to the United States), and something turned up that neither fee table mentions. Doorzo’s quote screen carries a condition: Japan Post is available only when the parcel’s total value exceeds US$800. Its cheapest option, ¥3,300 surface mail, is therefore unavailable on exactly the small orders that need it most.

Cheap orders can’t use the cheap route. That is a strange thing to discover in a fee comparison, and it reshapes the answer.

Everything below comes from the two companies’ official calculators and help pages, checked on July 29, 2026. These are the third and fourth services in our comparison of Japan proxy shopping services, and we have no financial relationship with either company.

We measured the shipping, and found a threshold

Same inputs on both sides: 2kg, United States, ZIP 10001.

Doorzo returned nine options, handling fees included.

Method2kg to the US
Surface mail¥3,300
ECMS air¥4,278
Japan Post AIR Packet¥5,070
Doorzo Priority (own service)¥5,148
Doorzo Air (own service)¥5,610
Airmail¥6,700
FedEx¥6,839
DHL¥7,142
Japan Post EMS¥7,900

¥3,300 is the lowest figure we have seen from any proxy service. Underneath the table, though, sits this:

When the destination is the United States, Japan Post (EMS, EPL, airmail, surface mail) is available only if the total value of the parcel exceeds 800 USD. For parcels of 800 USD or less, Japan Post cannot be used, so please select a different shipping method.

Surface mail is Japan Post. So are EMS, airmail and AIR Packet. Strike all four from the list and a ¥10,000 order is left choosing between five options:

ECMS ¥4,278, Doorzo Priority ¥5,148, Doorzo Air ¥5,610, FedEx ¥6,839, DHL ¥7,142.

Neokyo’s calculator returned a shorter list, and a cheaper courier.

Method2kg to the USStatus
DHL Express Worldwide (2–6 days)¥4,998Available
DHL EXPRESS 12:00 (2–5 days)¥6,330Available
FedEx International Connect Plus (3–5 days)¥6,589Available
Japan Post EMS / airmail / surfaceReturned as unavailable
FedEx Priority / EconomyReturned as unavailable
UPS Express SaverReturned as unavailable

Three usable options against Doorzo’s nine. But that ¥4,998 DHL Express undercuts Doorzo’s own DHL by ¥2,144 for what is, on paper, the same carrier.

Line the numbers up and the decision resolves cleanly. Under $800, Doorzo’s ECMS at ¥4,278 is the cheapest route available to you, ¥720 below Neokyo’s floor. ECMS is standard air freight, slower than DHL’s 2–6 days. So the real question is whether ¥720 is worth the wait.

Over $800, surface mail opens up at ¥3,300 and Doorzo wins by ¥1,698, if you can accept two to four months in transit.

A band split by a line at eight hundred dollars, with ¥4,278 by ECMS air on the left and ¥3,300 by surface mail on the right.
Doorzo's own calculator, 2kg to the United States, July 2026. Under $800 Japan Post is closed to you and ECMS at ¥4,278 is the floor, ¥720 below Neokyo's cheapest. Above $800 surface mail opens at ¥3,300 and the gap widens to ¥1,698.

One category rearranges this ranking entirely. ECMS will not carry blades to the US, Australia or Canada, so a kitchen knife cannot travel on the cheapest route no matter which service you use.

For context, here are the two proxies we measured previously on identical terms. We have since run one of them directly against Neokyo in ZenMarket vs Neokyo.

Neokyo¥4,998¥6,589

Doorzo¥7,142¥4,278¥6,839
ZenMarket¥11,334¥6,409¥8,612

On DHL, Neokyo is the cheapest of the four. Full write-ups if you want them: Buyee, ZenMarket, and all seven services we have looked at.

Why the line sits at $800

That the US de minimis threshold is also $800 is not a coincidence.

From August 2025 the United States began applying duties to parcels from Japan. Japan Post responded by suspending acceptance of US-bound mail containing “goods intended for sale for consumption” and gifts valued over $100, effective August 27, 2025. Its country table still marks US-bound EMS as acceptable for some items only. Goods bought through a proxy service are easy to read as goods for sale.

Which is why all four services we have tested landed somewhere different. Buyee removed US-bound EMS. Neokyo returns it as unavailable. ZenMarket quotes ¥7,900 but leaves eligibility to the contents. Doorzo opens Japan Post above $800. One rule, four operational readings.

There is a logic to Doorzo’s version. A parcel over $800 is dutiable anyway, so the “goods for sale” question is moot; parcels below the threshold are the ones trying to clear duty-free. Doorzo doesn’t explain its reasoning anywhere we could find, so that reading is inference, not fact.

Duty itself shows up on Neokyo’s quote screen too: DHL delivers duty unpaid, FedEx prepays it at a base 13.4% plus ¥150 per parcel among other charges. A ¥2,000 shipping gap can close again depending on how duty lands.

The fee is lower at Doorzo. The range is set in the cart

Neokyo charges ¥350 per item and states plainly that the figure holds across every site it supports. Mercari, Yahoo! Auctions, ZOZOTOWN, ¥350 each time. Nothing to calculate.

Doorzo lists ¥50–300 per item. Even at the ¥300 ceiling that undercuts Neokyo, and at ¥50 it is a seventh of the price. On the fee itself, Doorzo is clearly cheaper.

What the help pages don’t cover is what moves the number inside that range. Price band, category, source marketplace, none of it is documented. The figure appears once an item is in your cart, so pinning down the exact amount means going as far as selecting the goods. Doorzo also runs a “0 purchase fees on all sites” campaign page, but its conditions are set in an image rather than text, and we could not read them. We have since found the answer on the site’s own banner (one fee-free coupon per week) along with the rest of what Doorzo publishes only as images, in our Doorzo review.

Buying ten items, Doorzo’s fee lands somewhere between ¥500 and ¥3,000. Neokyo’s is ¥3,500, full stop. The choice is between a discount with a range and a number that doesn’t move.

Shipping visibility follows the same design. Neokyo’s calculator needs no login, anyone can enter a weight and a destination and see real figures. Doorzo’s calculator sits behind an account, and we registered one to write this article. Members-only pricing is common enough, but at the comparison stage it adds a step.

Neokyo has its own separate line items, to be fair: ¥500 packaging up to 2kg, an extra ¥1,000 if you pay at a convenience store, and ¥1,000 plus packing costs to unpack a parcel. Doorzo charges ¥100–300 for protective inner packing and ¥200 for outer packing. Neither service is fully described by its fee and shipping columns alone.

Three worked examples

Same conditions throughout: 2kg parcel, US destination. Yen converted at roughly ¥164 to the dollar, taken from Neokyo’s own on-page rate (¥100 = $0.61).

One disclosure first. We could not determine from Neokyo’s official pages whether its ¥500 packaging fee and its ¥500 consolidation base fee are the same charge or two separate ones. The figures below count ¥500 once. If they stack, add ¥500 to each Neokyo total.

Example 1: three figures from Amiami (¥24,000, about $146)

Neokyo cannot do this one. Amiami is a Doorzo-only store.

Doorzo: ¥24,000 goods, ¥150–900 in fees (¥50–300 × 3), consolidation free within ten orders. At $146 the parcel is under the $800 line, so surface mail is out and ECMS applies at ¥4,278.

Total: ¥28,428–29,178. The ¥750 fee range carries straight through to the total.

Example 2: two garments from ZOZOTOWN (¥18,000, about $110)

Reversed: ZOZOTOWN appears on Neokyo’s official marketplace list and not on Doorzo’s. Doorzo’s search surfaces ZOZOTOWN items, but the store isn’t in its mall directory.

Neokyo: ¥18,000 goods, ¥700 in fees (¥350 × 2), ¥500 packaging, ¥4,998 DHL Express.

Total: ¥24,198. Every line known in advance.

Example 3: ten small items from Mercari in one box (¥15,000, about $91)

Both services handle Mercari, so this is the first direct comparison.

Doorzo: ¥15,000 goods, ¥150–3,000 fees, consolidation free, ECMS ¥4,278. Total ¥19,428–22,278.

Neokyo: ¥15,000 goods, ¥3,500 fees, ¥500 packaging, DHL Express ¥4,998. Total ¥23,998.

Doorzo comes in ¥1,720–4,570 cheaper. Collecting many cheap items is where its ten-free consolidation and low per-item fee do the most work.

With one caveat: both totals assume the box actually prices as 2kg.

When the box decides the price

From Doorzo’s quote page:

In accordance with FedEx, DHL and ECMS air regulations, when “volumetric weight” exceeds “actual weight,” the charge is calculated on volumetric weight.

Volumetric weight is a figure derived from the parcel’s dimensions. Light, bulky shipments get billed on the size of the box rather than what it weighs, think plush toys, or figures in retail packaging.

A Reddit user documented what that can look like: 28 items sent through Doorzo, split across five boxes, $2,107 of shipping against $1,486 of goods, 142%. They argued the boxes were larger than the contents required and said a repack request was declined. It is one report, so we can’t say how typical the outcome is. But the more you consolidate, the harder box count and volume are to predict, and that much is structural.

Doorzo does state that after re-weighing, overpayments are refunded while shortfalls are not billed back. Not being chased for a shortfall favours the customer; the possibility of the quote rising still stands.

Neokyo uses the same carriers, so the volumetric rule applies there too. Its consolidation carries a stated ceiling, though (parcels over 30kg or outside postal size limits are excluded), so it isn’t built for large consolidations in the first place.

For bulky shipments at volume, treat either quote as an estimate.

They reach different stores

Price has taken up most of this article. In practice, the store list settles it more often.

Two overlapping circles: three stores only Doorzo reaches, seven that both reach, and seven only Neokyo reaches.
Both services cover Mercari, Rakuma, Yahoo! Auctions, PayPay Flea Market, Amazon JP, Suruga-ya and Rakuten. Doorzo alone lists amiami, Lashinbang and Book Off; Neokyo alone lists ZOZOTOWN, Minne, Magi, JYP JAPAN, Colleize, Yahoo! Shopping and Limista. From each company's official mall directory, July 2026.

Both cover Mercari, Rakuma, Yahoo! Auctions, PayPay Flea Market, Amazon JP, Suruga-ya and Rakuten.

Past that they diverge.

Doorzo-only, per its official mall directory: Amiami, Lashinbang, Book Off. Figures, anime merchandise, second-hand hobby goods, if that’s what you collect, Doorzo is where you go.

Neokyo-only, per its marketplace list: ZOZOTOWN, Minne, Magi, JYP JAPAN, Colleize, Yahoo! Shopping, Limista. Fashion, handmade, trading cards, K-pop.

Neither official list mentions BOOTH or Mercari Shops. If you need either, ask first.

Both sit at 4.6

Trustpilot has both at 4.6 as of July 29, 2026. The review counts are not comparable: Neokyo 9,833, Doorzo 1,144. Eight times the sample carries more weight behind the same score. The star distributions run close: Neokyo 8,124 five-star against 304 one-star, Doorzo 982 against 57.

We read user threads too, with one thing worth flagging. Doorzo’s community (r/doorzohaul) has active staff participation, and Neokyo’s (r/Neokyo) has an official account posting regularly. Both skew positive as a result.

Allowing for that, here is what stood on venues without staff involvement. For Doorzo: the 142% shipping case above, and a report of a parcel returned to Japan marked as refused by the recipient. For Neokyo: a user switching from Buyee reported 13 days for goods to reach the warehouse against Buyee’s 10, with another replying that 4–5 days is normal and busy periods explain the gap. No resolution there.

Support runs through several channels on both sides. Doorzo: email, on-site tickets, a chatbot, and a Discord of around 4,200 members, staffed weekdays 10:30–18:30 JST with replies inside one business day. Neokyo: contact form, email, Messenger, X and Discord, with a stated 24-hour weekday response.

Doorzo’s site is offered in 18 languages against Neokyo’s 9. That counts the interface. Whether support staff actually work in those languages isn’t published by either company.

Bidding on Yahoo! Auctions

Neokyo documents its automatic bidding: set a maximum, and it bids up on your behalf against an auction deposit funded through PayPal or Stripe. Sniping (bidding in the closing seconds) isn’t mentioned in its official pages.

Doorzo supports bidding as well, but its feature page is image-based and we couldn’t extract how the automatic bidding works. If auctions are the point, ask before you commit.

FAQ

Is Doorzo or Neokyo cheaper? It depends on order value and how fast you need it. Under $800, Doorzo’s ECMS at ¥4,278 is the cheapest route, ¥720 below Neokyo’s floor. For speed, Neokyo’s DHL Express at ¥4,998 arrives in 2–6 days and is the lowest courier rate among the four proxies we have measured. Over $800, Doorzo’s ¥3,300 surface mail is cheapest but takes 2–4 months. Measured on both official calculators, 2kg to the US, July 2026.

What are the fees for each? Neokyo charges ¥350 per item, stated as identical across every supported site. Doorzo charges ¥50–300 per item, so the fee itself is lower, but what sets the figure within that range isn’t documented, and the exact amount appears once the item is in your cart.

What is the cheapest way to ship from Doorzo to the US? Surface mail at ¥3,300 if the parcel’s total value exceeds $800. At $800 or below, Japan Post is unavailable and ECMS air at ¥4,278 is the floor.

Why is there an $800 threshold? It matches the US de minimis limit. Since August 2025 Japan Post has restricted US-bound mail containing goods for sale, and Doorzo permits Japan Post routes only for parcels valued above $800. Doorzo does not publish its reasoning.

Can I ship to the US by EMS? With Doorzo, only above $800. Neokyo returns EMS as unavailable. For reference, Buyee has removed the option and ZenMarket quotes a price but leaves eligibility to the contents.

Which is better for anime merchandise? Doorzo. Amiami, Lashinbang and Book Off appear only on its official store list.

What if I want to buy from ZOZOTOWN? Neokyo. It is the only one of the two with ZOZOTOWN on its official marketplace list.

Which has better reviews? Both sit at 4.6 on Trustpilot as of July 29, 2026, but Neokyo has 9,833 reviews against Doorzo’s 1,144.

Can the final shipping cost exceed the quote? Yes. On DHL, FedEx and ECMS, both services bill on volumetric weight when it exceeds actual weight, so bulky parcels drift furthest from their quotes.

The bottom line

Pick the cheaper fee and you’ll be half right.

Doorzo is genuinely cheaper: ¥50–300 per item, ten orders consolidated free, and ¥1,720–4,570 less on a ten-item Mercari haul. It also reaches more stores, and for anime and hobby goods it is sometimes the only option. Locking in the total means getting as far as the cart.

Neokyo costs more. ¥350 is fixed, packaging adds ¥500. In exchange every number is visible before you commit: shipping quotes without logging in, one fee across all sites, and freight passed through without markup.

Less “which is cheaper” than what you want to do about the range. Three figures from Amiami puts ¥750 in play, which is nothing. Thirty items in one shipment is a different question.

If the store you want sits on one list and not the other, that settles it. If both can reach it, the choice is between the lower number and the known one.

The $800 line in this article is Doorzo’s own order-value rule, not a customs threshold. The customs threshold of the same amount (the US de minimis exemption) has been suspended since August 29, 2025, and duty now applies to every parcel regardless of value. See buying luxury goods from Japan for what that costs and which services refuse to ship jewelry at all.
